CRIMSON VEIL OF DESPAIR

MEDIUM: MIXED MEDIA ART - A4 CANVAS TEXTURED PAD WINSOR & NEWTON, SOFT BLACK PASTELS, CHARCOAL, THEN SCANNED AND PLAYED AROUND ON PROCREATE ON IPAD FOR SOME BLURRINESS AND EXTRA TEXTURE

“This piece was inspired by the philosophical novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray’’ by Oscar Wilde & this quote below:

“There's an old saying. "Raise no more devils than you can lay down." Satan raised one too many.’
- Mephistopheles

I first read this book quite young, a recommendation from my own father and since then I have been so enthralled by it. I actually have a cat now named Dorian. Nonetheless, I tried to portray Dorian himself tormented by his own choices. As when you lay your head, at the end of the day, you are alone. He might have persuaded beauty and pleasure, but he his haunted by the souls left behind and the devil himself.”

“26 years old, graduated in Arts & Communication Design, back in Germany. I am a full-time Illustrator and also do some oil paintings. I can say I’m heavily influenced by my own melancholia, literature, philosophy and grand names such as Edvard Munch & Van Gogh. I paint to survive and express what I can't with words. The only way I can keep sane, if there's any left.”
