THE SLAYING OF CERBERUS

MEDIUM: GOUACHE UNDERPAINTING, PRISMACOLOR PENCILS, FABER-CASTELL OIL PASTELS

“I wanted to depict a specific type of Faustian Bargain.  The type every person goes through.  A loss of innocence.  The battle between who we are, who we are expected to be, and the disgusting and off putting desires we hold deep within.  One day I had something almost like a vision of this three headed unicorn.  I did not understand what it meant but I felt deeply connected to it.  When flushing out this concept I took a clear inspiration from the cerberus myth.  With the left head representing the past and this child-like innocence.  The middle head being the present and who we are right now.  The third head is the future and desire.  As we step into those desires the background starts to blur and we become less grounded.  This can be mesmerising but almost like there's nowhere to step.  The flower that adorns the third head is money, power, and knowledge but you cannot obtain that without blood.”

“Hello! My name is KD Anne and I'm from Virginia. After reflecting I feel I was a little secretive with my introduction last month. I'm not quite ready to bare my soul and allow others to judge but I would like to share more about my art. The only art training I have is four (4) years of public-school art classes.  I cherish those four years of my life and how they have deeply impacted my style. I don't favor one medium more than another however I am quite proficient with water-based paint and oil pastels (AH the duality). I like to play with color and texture. With visual media those are the gateway to a person's senses. A certain shade of orange can feel like the sun. A certain way the paint is layered can feel like your favorite blanket. These are things I really try to tap into and feelings I want to evoke in my audience. Maybe next month I'll continue to share more about myself.”
