Folie a deux is French for “madness for two”. It almost sounds romantic. Heartbreakingly romantic.
Eventually the veil will be torn from our eyes. We will realize that we are just two people finding solace in one another. A fleeting moment. A brief connection before we both inevitably flee and go back to what feels comfortable. What feels safe. What will not force us to look inwards and change things about ourselves.
For now, we can indulge in this shared delusion. you will brush my bangs from my forehead, and I will memorize the shape of your lips. It’s cliche and will inevitably end in heartbreak. But for now, who cares?
Perhaps we will linger in the doorway once we come to our senses. And for a brief moment, we will wonder if it was real. Or maybe we were mad all along.”
