RIVER SONG

MEDIUM: AUDIO

Endlessly, the time, it goes
That’s the way the river flows

And time is like water
No matter how tightly you hold on, it’ll slip away
And tomorrow is today

Even as the current keeps rolling,
I try to keep what I can
Filling my pockets with rocks on the shore so I remember the moment

Endlessly, the time, it goes
That’s the way the river flows

And although it is true
I am whole without you
Still, my feet get trapped in the sand and I ask the Earth to bury me with you

That’s not what you would’ve wanted
Life goes, the river still flows
So I pick my feet up and remember the day that I learned how to swim

Endlessly, the time, it goes
That’s the way the river flows

ARTIST’S NOTE
I wrote this song in one of the most gut-wrenching, unbearable states of sadness. It was right after I had to make the sudden, heartbreaking, and devastating decision to put my dear sweet cat, River, to rest last March. He was one of the most happy and serene cats I've ever known, and he was unapologetically sweet until the end. It came as a complete shock, as he was a pure vessel of joy, and you would've never known he was in pain. When we adopted him, they thought he was only 4 years old. His health began rapidly declining out of nowhere, and we had to take him to the emergency vet. There, they discovered that he was probably much older than they'd thought, and he had stage 4 liver disease. Even with treatment, he probably wouldn't have much longer to live, and it wouldn't have been the quality of life that he deserves.
My heart was absolutely torn to pieces. I didn't know what to do with myself when I got home. I was consumed by the emptiness- the presence of him being gone. So I wrote this song. I felt like I had to, or I might get buried too. It helped me move through the grief. It is my hope that through music and through art, his spirit lives on forever. May the river always flow.

“Hi. My name is Regan (pronounced Ree-gan). A devout follower of Nowhere Girl Collective, I have been honored to be featured in the November Issue, Ouroboros, the January issue, Billet Doux, and the March issue, Runaway, so we may have met before. Every day I count my lucky stars to behold the opportunity to grow my sense of community with creatives around the world through this platform Lady Dakota has cultivated.
I'm just a girl in love with reverb and telling stories through sound. I love art and expression in all forms, but music has been my favorite medium of creating since before I can remember.
I am part of a 2-person indie dream pop band called Meadows. This song and all other works released under the name Meadows are co-created and produced by my partner and bandmate, Brian Ragland, and it's all home-made with love from our sweet little one-bedroom apartment. We co-founded a little indie record label, Strawberry Blonde Records, if you are ever looking to collaborate in the midwest area of the US or to find more music (@strawberryblonderecords on Instagram).
You can find me on the streaming platform of your choice as Meadows <3”
