A GIRL REBORN

MEDIUM: OIL ON CANVAS

“In this painting I explored the idea of self destruction and creation through destruction. The prompt of Ouroboros got me thinking that one cannot destroy something, without simultaneously creating something else. I wanted to stray a little from the typical image of a snake eating its own tail and show, instead, a girl breaking herself apart and consuming herself. That blood, flesh and carnage proceeds to fertilize the wildflowers. The girl is reborn in those flowers. She lives on, only as something new, something different.”

Abigail Grace, 18, USA ✯ BACK TO ART: OUROBOROS

“I have been doing visual art for a few years now and am going to school for fashion design. Most of my work focuses on the idea of girlhood, typically exploring the brutality of it, but at the same time showcasing my romanticization of my own girlhood. I’m an obsessive art lover in general, so my work is also often influenced by books, films, music and poems that I’ve had the privilege of experiencing recently.”
