CROWN OF TRINKETS PAST

MEDIUM: CROWN IN PAPER-MACHE AND GESSO, WITAH ATTACHED ITEMS MADE OF CHAIN, POLYMER CLAY, BEADS, CERAMIC, GLASS

“When creating this piece I was interested in religious symbolism and particularly the 'crown of thorns' with it to me representing unrecognised memories and struggles whilst being sacred and meaningful to the wearer. Having created a crown, I then added small charms and trinkets representing past and present aspects of myself and my experiences, to show how they have all contributed and developed me into my current state, which will continue to evolve forever. The teeth charms are particularly important to me as to me they represent loss and pain like a pulled tooth, but at the same time a reverence for your inner child and the loss of youth like when you lose your baby teeth.”

“I'm a new art uni graduate interested in the idea of ritual, memory, nature, gothic and religious symbolism, and emotions. I love to create artwork that floats in the liminal space between reality and folklore, and the tangible and ineffable. I work in many mediums, preferring to let the idea dictate my medium.”
