MEDIUM: OIL ON CANVAS BOARD, 11.8” x 11.8”

‘I painted this from a photograph that my Mum took of me in our garden when I was a small child; she says that these were the only times when she could capture me, when I was absorbed in the world of the garden. Painting this brought back vivid memories of what I had imagined in childhood: elaborate fairy kingdoms and talking animals to befriend. I believe that the dreaminess of my state of mind has made its way into the colours and brushwork; I wanted my skin to have a soap bubble texture, akin to Glinda's arrival in the Wizard of Oz which I loved passionately as a child.’
