MOTHER’S EMBRACE
MEDIUM: EMBROIDERY ON WOOL, PHOTO COLLAGE
‘Mother's Embrace is based on a glacial river I lived next to for a month in a tiny town in northern Iceland. I hand-dyed the wool to match the rich colors of the flowing waters. While in Iceland, I was fascinated by the rich folklore of the island. I embroidered some vague spirits throughout the weaving as a nod to this history. The images of my embroidered weaving have been collaged over photographs and drone shots of the river from every angle.’

“Like the earth, Meryl has been in hibernation for months and has finally awoken her artistic soul to create again. While the virgo in her usually leads to a very methodical, planned approach to artmaking, she's using this season of newness as an excuse to let loose and create recklessly. She hopes to make a lot of bad, passionate art these next few months, and hopefully you'll get to see it.”
