POSTCARDS UNSENT
MEDIUM: EMBROIDERY
ARTIST’S NOTE:
“‘Postcards unsent’ are a series of letters I’ve written to my ex-love as I recover from our entanglement. I spent a lot of time laying in bed considering my emotions, so it only made sense to me to embroider these images onto satin pillowcases. It's as if the hours I spent laying on mine left a permanent imprint, the dreams and thoughts ingrained in my pillow. I embroidered these images in white thread, making the images almost muddled to read, requiring more attention to comprehend. The postcards are best displayed hanging from a ceiling in the center of a room so that people can walk around them, touch them, and read for themselves. In the image side of the postcard, I place myself into an imaginary world where everything is beautiful despite my devastation, a soft place to land as I figure out how I feel. On the back are written excerpts from my own diary, things I wish he knew but I will never tell him. This series is a work in progress, but I have documented 2 of them for you today.”
The Pink Postcard says: "To: my passenger. Your ghost rides in my passenger seat, reminding me where we went wrong. I listen to podcasts now to drown you out. Love, your car crash."
The Purple Postcard says: "To: my captain. After months of drowning in heartbreak, I finally decided to stop fighting the weight, making a home on the bottom of the ocean instead. the fish treat me better than you ever did. Love, your shipwreck."
