ETERNAL WHISPER

MEDIUM: FILM, BLACK TEA

ARTIST’S NOTE:
"This is a self portrait taken on medium format film and turned into a cyanotype print (toned with black tea). I took it for a new series I'm working on called 'eternal whispers' (the title is inspired by some lines in Keats' Endymion). In this series, I'm exploring the concept of the eeriness of love & grief. My inspiration comes from the loss of my grandpa. It's been 20 years, but I still carry the grief. I guess this is my way of writing a love letter dedicated to him, to honor my memories of him. Hopefully, it reaches him wherever he is now.”

I hear crows outside my window
in the morning, I welcome them
and say
soothe my sorrows away.

Célia Schouteden, 30, Liège - Belgium ✯ IG: @hauntedheights & TT: @hauntedheights & www.myhauntedheights.com

“Célia Schouteden (she/they) is a Belgian storyteller, bookseller apprentice & visual artist from Belgium. She aspires to make the invisible visible—often by exploring the themes of disability, melancholia & grief. Their preferred medium is film photography (35mm, 120mm, polaroid). Since October 2023, they’ve started experimenting with cyanotype printing & toning. She hopes to keep learning alternative photographic & printing processes in the future.
Her art is heavily inspired by the pre raphaelites, romanticism, pictorialism, and literature—some of her favourite artists, poets & writers are respectively Julia Margaret Cameron, Anne Brigman, Alice Boughton, Francesca Woodman, Ellen Rogers, Edna St Vincent Millay, Shirley Jackson, the Brontë Sisters & Virginia Woolf.
Cinematography also has a crucial role in her art, as she often finds inspiration in films. She (not so) secretly hopes to work on a film set someday… By creating her freelancing project, Haunted Heights, she wishes to share her love for romanticism & symbolism with others & create more art through collaborations.”
