GENERATIONAL GIFTS

MEDIUM: EYELETS, SATIN RIBBON, ON TEXTILE. 45.7x40.6cm

“In repurposing materials handed down through a family, this textile piece recognises the hidden memories held in the fibres. These gifts, whether they are pretty objects wrapped up in bows or simple fabric scraps used by another relation, are to be cherished and protected. In treasuring these gestures - something saved from landfill just because it is a sentimental reminder of a loved one - every small heirloom becomes a love token.”

Sophie Rushton, 25, Oxfordshire - UK ✯ IG: @curiosophie.art

“Sophie Rushton’s expanded painting practice navigates the borders of chronic illness, feminism, and the body. Through sensitive introspection, her mixed media paintings and textile works address the psychological impacts of bodily autonomy and intimacy. A careful process of staining, sewing, layering, and creating tension allows her work to explore feminine fluidity, chance, and exposed narratives. Rushton graduated with a degree in Fine Art from Manchester School of Art in 2022 and now works as a bookseller for an independent bookshop.”
