ARTIST’S NOTE:
"So obviously this piece is not about literal love letters/notes. Instead, the fruits themselves are a representation of acts of service for one’s love/partner, and in that, they pose as the love notes of this story. Since the labor of cutting and peeling and seeding these fruits is all borne out of the love one bears for their partner, in the “footnotes” of these metaphorical letters, the action says “I love you.” The choice of fruits, additionally, bears its own symbolism. The slow and delicate seeding of a pomegranate can sometimes be a metaphor for a type of way to love someone; loving them gently and patiently, versus ravenously and recklessly. Pomegranates, additionally, pertain to ideas of love in the context of metaphorical cannibalism, with the fruit often being employed as imagery for the giving of one’s own flesh to a lover, the receiving of their flesh in return, etc…”
